A Humble Opinion
By Jay Lee
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's personal
Watergate (Gloriagate) is an issue that requires no further introduction.
It is an issue that is gripping the Filipino people from matters
of national importance. It is the opinion of this author
that President Arroyo must resign her post if she truly cares
about the welfare of our country. Allow the process of
succession to begin. Since she stepped into the Office of the
President, she and her family has been involved in series of scandals
that has shaken the country and its government. Our fragile country
can only take so much of this and prolonging these issues and
allowing the country to go further into political turmoil and
instability is unacceptable, considering the circumstances surrounding
our nation. It is my belief that her administration can longer
tackle the important issues that our nation must face.
The Gloriagate scandal greatly places into question
her ability to effectively lead the country and the legitimacy
of her leadership. Her sincerity to lead the country into the
progressive nation we all aspire it to be, no longer matters.
The Filipino people are absorbed into events that are crippling
her administration and our government. It is a fact that if her
administration is allowed to go on, it will spend its life trying
to survive and live through this episode. Hence, her administration
can no longer be effective.
It is our hope and prayer that the opposition
has a great master plan, for the good of our nation, with this
revelation of corruption within the present administration. It
is inexcusable to think that all this is for the purpose of waltzing
into the Office of the President and do nothing to serve the will
of the Filipino people.
The Filipino people deserve something better
from a government it installed into position with its consent.
Quoting from the United States Declaration of Independence:
“…governments are instituted
among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the
governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive
of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to
abolish it, and to institute new government…”
We remind our government that it is an institution
established by the people to embody the ideals and aspirations
of the Filipino people. We remind our government that they are
in their position because of us – the Sovereign Filipino
people.
